The cost of registration and ILACADA membership is $90.00. This fee includes appetizers at the Networking Social, continental breakfast, lunch, conference fee, materials, and membership in ILACADA through September 1, 2018.
2017 ILACADA Networking Social
Join us for food, drinks, and networking! Help us celebrate ILACADA’s 6th annual conference with the traditional networking social. We invite all conference attendees to join the ILACADA Conference Planning Committee and Executive Board the day before the conference. The Networking Social will be held in the Holmes Student Center from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. Check back for more details.

Dr. Teresa Garate, President & CEO of Anixter Center.
With an over 20-year career in the field of education, social service and disabilities, Dr. Teresa (Tere) Garate is President & CEO of Anixter Center, one of the largest nonprofit organizations in the Chicago area serving people of all ages with disabilities. At Anixter Center, her focus is on growing the breadth of services provided as well as the number of people served, with an intense focus on service quality and accountability. Dr. Garate is a recognized authority and advocate in the fields of disabilities, education, human services and public health and has an extensive background in government, nonprofit and private sectors. Prior to coming to Anixter Center, Dr. Garate held senior-level positions at Neumann Family Services, the Illinois Department of Public Health and Chicago Public Schools, among other organizations.
Dr. Garate is very active in the community. She serves on the Steering Committee of Kennedy Forum Illinois; she serves on the boards of HDA (Health & Disability Advocates) and the Illinois Community College Board, and she is the co-chair of the state task force for Employment and Economic Opportunities for People with Disabilities (EEOPD). She was appointed to the Illinois Community College Board (ICCB) to bring her expertise in higher education and perspectives for promoting educational access to high need populations, e.g. people with disabilities, Latino’s and non-traditional students. She is also a faculty member in the Department of Disability and Human Development at the University of Illinois, Chicago. Dr. Garate has been a frequent speaker in the United States and abroad on the issues of disability and empowerment. Dr. Garate holds a B.S. in Applied Psychology, a B.S.Ed. in Special Education, a Master’s Degree in Special Education and a Ph.D. in Special Education.
Travel to the conference is quite convenient. Conference participants traveling to the NIU Holmes Student Center have three options: the Metra Train, Greyhound Bus, or personal car.
- METRA Train: The nearest Metra Train station is located in Elburn, IL which is approximately 20 miles from the NIU Holmes Student Center. More details about the train service is available on the Metra Train website; please view the “Union Pacific West” train route. Attendees would need to coordinate their own transportation from Elburn to the NIU Holmes Student Center via cabs, rideshare services, or carpooling with other attendees.
- Greyhound Bus: the Greyhound Bus services the local DeKalb, IL area with a stop at the NIU Holmes Student Center. Conference participants will need to contact Greyhound Bus directly to secure their reservation. To book a Greyhound trip, visit their website.
- Personal Car: For those traveling by car to campus the day of the conference, here’s a link to the NIU campus maps. For visitor parking, we recommend the Visitor Pay Lot located on Carroll Avenue, which is within walking distance of the Holmes Student Center. This lot does charge $5.00 per day. The $25 membership dues portion is not refundable. The $65 conference fee portion is 100% refundable (less a $15 processing fee) until July 22; 50% refundable (less the same $15 processing fee) from July 23 – August 22, and non-refundable after August 22. However, we do allow transfer to another member from the same institution within that last month.
